THE DESCENT TO EARTH 🌍
… AND THE PATHWAYS OF RETURN ❕

Allah, Exalted is His praise, says:
“We said, ‘Descend from it, all of you. And when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance – there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.’”
— (Qur’an 2:38, Sahih International)

1. Guidance: The Map of the Journey in the Abode of Striving
Allah’s command {Descend} is a declaration of the beginning of the great journey of trial — a journey that unfolds through three dimensions:
• Place:
The earth is an abode of testing, a realm where one may stumble into peril — unlike Paradise, the secure and tranquil dwelling.
• Time:
Worldly life is bound by an appointed term, making the wise investment of each passing moment a necessity.
• Faith in the Unseen:
And the confrontation with Satan 📛, who strives to drag the servant toward excess or neglect, adorning indecency and disguising it with alluring names.
🗯️ Ibn Kathir رحمه الله said:
• “Whoever follows My guidance” — meaning: whoever embraces what I have sent down through the Books and the Messengers;
• “There will be no fear concerning them” — regarding what lies ahead of them in the Hereafter;
• “Nor will they grieve” — over what they have missed from the affairs of this worldly life.

2. Longing… The Natural Compass of the Soul
Imam al-Ghazālī points out that within the human heart there exists a void that nothing can fill except Allah.
• This emptiness is, in truth, the soul’s yearning for its heavenly origin.
Yet a person may misinterpret it, imagining it to be a longing for something worldly.
⸻
3. The Wisdom Behind the Absence of “Fear” and “Grief”
• Grief: the pain of the heart over what has passed (the past).
• Fear: the pain of the heart in anticipation of harm (the future).
According to al-Ghazālī, following divine guidance liberates the human being from the prison of time, allowing him to live in the serenity of the present moment — with Allah.
